B12 & Lipotropic Injections

Vitamin B12 and Lipotropic Injections

Vitamin B12

Are you feeling tired or rundown? Do you find it harder to lose weight or need something to assist in your current weight loss regimen? Vegan or vegetarian?

If you answered “yes” to any or all of these then Vitamin B12 and lipotropic injections may be exactly what you need. Even if you didn’t answer “yes” to any of those questions, chances are you are a good candidate for injections.

“I have a friend who gets B12 and they love it,” “I’ve heard of it but don’t really know what it is” … these are very common questions we receive in the clinic, and may be questions you have wondered before.

What exactly is Vitamin B12 and why is it so important?

Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that our bodies require for many different bodily processes. Everything from our nervous system, helping to keep our blood cells healthy, creating DNA in our bodies, preventing anemia and working with our bodies to transition fat to lean muscle. Vitamin B12 may also help with fatigue and weakness, especially in those with deficiency.

Although we provide supplementation with injections or pill, you can often supplement your diet with animal or meat products. This is a concern for individuals that are vegan or vegetarian as they may be at a higher risk for deficiency of vitamin B12.

Even if you are not a vegetarian or vegan, many factors may increase your risk of B12 deficiency:

  • Individuals over 50 years old
  • Certain medications
  • Auto-immune disease
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • * Taking Birth Control Pills
  • Vitamin B12 injections are used because deficiency is very common. People are regularly getting injections for a variety of reasons.

What are signs of deficiency?

Signs can vary from person to person and depend on your individual health and lifestyle. But here are few common signs of vitamin B12 deficiency:

  • Tiredness, fatigue or weakness
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Memory issues or loss of concentration
  • Constipation
  • Muscle weakness
  • Dizziness

NOTE: These are some signs of B12 deficiency that can benefit from a B12 regimen. Our current lifestyles, environment and stress levels can also influence your B12 levels.

Why are injections better than taking a supplement or pill?

Supplements and pills are a great way for many people to take vitamin B12. However, You will urinate most ingested Vitamin B12. Our bodies are more able to absorb B12 through an injection. An injection can be directly administered into the body which can then be better absorbed and processed with greater efficiency.

Where do you inject and does it hurt?

Vitamin B12 injections are Intramuscular (IM) injections. This means that the injection is administered directly into the muscle. It is often injected into the shoulder of the arm or the buttocks.

Everyone has a different pain level and pain threshold. The injection is administered by a trained health professional after a brief consultation. Although there is little to no pain during the injection, different factors can influence your pain or comfort during the injection.

Being dehydrated, tense or having an injection after a workout when the muscle can be tight or tense may create more discomfort. Relaxation, hydration and breathing will all help to make the injection more comfortable.

How soon will I feel the benefits of the Vitamin B12?

It’s important to understand that everyone is different. Some people may say that they feel the benefits within an hour post injection. But for some people it may take longer or multiple shots to feel the benefits. It’s important to understand that while you may not ‘feel’ it, the vitamin B12 is still being absorbed into the body to produce its effects.

It’s often recommended to get B12 injections once a month or once or twice a week. This is dependent upon your individual health and goals.

How does Rocky Mountain Skin Care Clinic offer the injections?
