About Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC and Juvederm Ultra XC
What is Juvederm® exactly?
Juvederm® is an FDA-approved facial filler that contains hyaluronic acid gel. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. As you age, levels decrease resulting in wrinkles and fine lines. Juvederm plumps and fills wrinkles to replace what you have lost. Juvederm differs from Botox in a way that it still treats wrinkles and fine lines, but it temporarily corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. These include the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
How long does it last?
Juvederm Ultra products will last 9 to 12 months depending on a few factors and where the filler is injected.
Factors can include but are not limited to:
- Depth of the wrinkles and folds
- How your body metabolizes the hyaluronic acid gel
- Your overall health
- Your age
Where can Juvederm Ultra PlusXc and Juvederm Ultra XC be injected?
Juvederm can be injected from the cheeks to the chin. The most common area is the cheeks, the nasolabial folds (laugh lines), the marionette lines and the lips.
After meeting with the nurse, an evaluation will be made as to how much Juvederm is needed and what areas will give you the best result. During the consultation you will have an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. A treatment plan will be developed to provide you with the best outcome.
What is recovery like and how much downtime will you need?
Recovery times will vary depending on each patient and which type of filler is injected. Generally it is possible to resume most activities right away, but it is recommended to avoid moderate to intense physical activity for the first 24 to 48 hours to help minimize swelling and bruising or any adverse reactions.
After treatment you may experience:
- An ‘overfilled’ or ‘puffy’ look at the injection areas
- Swelling or bruising (mild to severe)
- Temporary numbness or redness
- Lumps or hard areas at the injection sites
- Hypersensitivity reaction like hives or swelling
Post treatment icing and massage will improve these conditions within hours or a few days. All post procedure care will be discussed with all patients by our nurse and recommendations given to prevent any and all reactions.
